Serge Blasberg (Quality AT Co-Chair) and Dr. Laura Riggle met with the BHD Psychology Department (majority are Medical Staff members) and disseminated the Mental Health Redesign SMART Goals 2013-2014, highlighted Tactical Objective 1.2, and held a discussion regarding the role that Department members can play in accomplishing this objective. Concepts discussed included being welcoming, person-centered, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, culturally competent, and co-occurring capable.
More generally, the group also discussed the nature and quality of psychological services that will be needed in a future mental health service delivery system. These services include, but are not limited to: intake assessments, psychological diagnostic assessments, recovery planning and recommendations, risk assessment and interventions to reduce risk and use of crisis services and inpatient, Wraparound and mobile crisis for children and adults, Day Treatment, Observation beds, community consultation to other professional for clinical needs including developmental disabilities and cognitive impairments/dementia, individual and group psychotherapy, behavioral analysis and treatment planning, program planning and development, mental health and mental health law education, legal services related to mental health law, guardianship evaluations, policy development, quality improvement, research design and implementation, grants, data collection and analysis, ethics consultations, clinical supervision, and training of future mental health professionals including doctoral psychology students and psychiatric residents, community education related to mental health, law enforcement, stigma, and access to resources.
Key Points for Task Force members: BHD Psychology Staff are committed to behaving consistently with the principles of the Redesign and want to be full partners in the implementation.
